What is Muay Thai?

Muay Thai is a centuries old, battle proven martial art from Thailand. Muay Thai is often called the art of 8 limbs, because we strike with hands (punches), legs (kicks), knees, and elbows. There is some stand up grappling (clinching), but Muay Thai is entirely a stand up striking art.

Who can attend Waterloo Muay Thai?

Waterloo Muay Thai is open to everyone (14+) regardless of fitness or Muay Thai level.

Do I need to be fit to attend Muay Thai?

Not at all, at Waterloo Muay Thai our goal is to build you up, by increasing your fitness level. Whatever level you are starting at we aim to improve it, while teaching proper exercise form and challenging you to push yourself.

What can I expect from my first Muay Thai class?

Expect a tough work out, a thorough explanations of proper technique (both exercise and Muay Thai) and a fun time venting your frustrations on pads and heavy bags! At Waterloo Muay Thai, our primary focus is on safe and proper training of Muay Thai with a detailed curriculum which will teach you all of the fundamentals of Muay Thai. What should I bring to my first class?

You should bring active wear, a water bottle (we have a water cooler) and a positive attitude. Be prepared to sweat. An electrolyte drink can help you out in your first few classes.
Handwraps will be required, You can bring your own or purchase them from the front desk ($10+tax).
All other equipment is provided (gloves , pads etc.), but you are more than welcome to bring your own.

I have no experience in Muay Thai, can I still attend classes?

Absolutely, our fundamental classes are geared towards teaching new students the absolute basics and building their fundamentals each week with a focus on a specific technique each week.

Can I try out a class before paying?

Yes, you can try 1 of our Fundamentals classes for free before having to pay.


Is there a contract? What are the sign up fees? How do I cancel my membership?

No Contract. No sign up fee. You can cancel anytime. Send us a message, call us or talk to us at the front desk and we will cancel it for you (no nonsense, you control your membership).

Is there parking?

Yes, there is a parking lot right in front of our entrance and in front of the Gibson Sound and Vision building. If arriving before 6 please park on the street next to the building or you can park in one of the 4 parking spots directly beside our entrance if they are available (full parking lot use after 6).
